Wide receiver Isaiah Williams was claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals from the Detroit Lions on waivers.
Williams, a rookie from Illinois who weighed 185 pounds and stood 5 feet 10 inches, signed with the Lions in May as a college free agent. During his two games this season, he has caught two passes for six yards and returned one kickoff for 36 yards. On Thursday, Detroit waived him.
After adding Khalil Herbert to the 53-man roster and placing Zack Moss and Erick All Jr. on injured reserve earlier this week, the Bengals didn’t need to create room for Williams.
Given that wide receiver is now far from this team’s top need, this is an odd decision. It’s important to remember, though, that Charlie Jones and Tee Higgins are dealing with injuries that held them out until Week 10. Williams might serve as insurance if Jones and Higgins miss games any longer, either one or both.
