Sweet news: his is back! saints welcome back irreplaceable injury prone genius in style after so many months of horrible huddle” could bring back what they seeks for…
The process of returning off injured reserve has started for one of the New Orleans Saints’ key offensive players.
The center The Saints opened the 21-day practice window for Erik McCoy’s return on Thursday, the first time he has practiced since going on injured reserve due to a groin injury after the team’s Week 3 oss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
McCoy has 21 days left before the Saints may activate him from injured reserve. His return to practice on Thursday is a sign that he is getting close to making a comeback, but it does not guarantee that he will play in this week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.
During the 21-day window, McCoy is free to practice with the Saints without adding to their roster of 53 players.
The Pro Bowl player and team captain paved the stage for the Saints’ successful season debut. In the first two games of the season, New Orleans scored 45.5 points per game while rushing for 370 yards. However, during the Eagles game’s opening offensive series, McCoy sustained a groin injury that necessitated surgery and has now prevented him from playing in six consecutive games.
Along the interior of the offensive line, it was the beginning of a chain reaction of injuries.
The Saints have used three different center players and six different offensive guards since McCoy departed that game. The offensive production, predictably, collapsed. Numerous further injuries have accumulated over time.
However, the Saints have only scored 16.5 points per game since that Week 3 setback, which marked the start of what is currently a seven-game losing skid. Since Week 3, only four teams have scored less points per game.
