BREAKING LIVE: spectacular! pope Kentucky has finally” swept aside Jackson state in brutal score win” as Otega Oweh shows original quality with a new historic record” here’s the 5 serious happened you need to know about the108-59 humiliating match future…

Here are five key takeaways from Friday night’s 108-59 victory over Jackson State by No. 9 Kentucky in men’s NCAA college basketball at Rupp Arena.

1. Kentucky’s exceptional equilibrium.

Ten players from the UK had played between six and fourteen minutes by halftime. In the plus/minus category, every UK player was in the range of plus-10 to plus-14.

Nine of Kentucky’s top ten players concluded the game with scores between plus-18 and plus-29. That implies that regardless of Mark Pope’s court personnel, there is little to no drop off.

For a coach, that is a significant advantage.

2. The wild 3-point shooting of Koby Brea.

All you need to know about Kentucky’s Brea’s scorching touch from outside the 3-point arc over the course of five games is this.

The transfer from Dayton made five of eight 3-pointers for the Wildcats on Friday night. His season percentage from behind the arc decreased as a result.

In 2024–25, the 6-foot-7, 215-pound super-senior entered the Jackson State game with an absurd 3-point shooting percentage of 78.9.

After going 5-for-8 against the Tigers, Brea’s 3-point percentage dropped to 74.1 (20-for-27) on the season. Brea led Kentucky on Friday night with 22 points. To this point in the season, any time Brea takes a shot with his feet set, it is literally a shock if it does not go in the basket.

3. Is there a player of star quality at Kentucky?

The common criticism of Kentucky this season is that, although they have several talented players (see point No. 1), the Wildcats lack true stars.

Don’t look now, though, since the UK may be producing a star in the making.

Otega Oweh ended with 21 points, three steals, and two assists against Jackson State. He made eight of his twelve shots, including all four of his foul shots.

In addition to making, essentially, the two game-winning plays in the final seconds of UK’s upset of Duke in the Champions Classic, the 6-4, 215-pound Oweh has now scored in double figures in all five of Kentucky’s games.

Oweh’s best quality this season, other from his clutch play against Duke, is that the junior guard starts games quickly.

That helps the UK start off well.

4. In the Unity Series, cats remain flawless.

With the win, Kentucky is now 3-0 in the Unity Series, a five-year collaboration between the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the United Kingdom in which the Wildcats play a SWAC member every year to promote the goals of HBCUs.

UK has defeated Florida A&M (88-68 in 2022-23), and Southern (76-62 in 2021-22) as part of the Unity Series. Kentucky’s

2023–24 Unity Series matchup was their exhibition match versus Kentucky State, which they won 99–53.

In terms of on-court results, Kentucky is currently 10-0 versus the current SWAC and officially 9-0 against opponents in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

UK has a 3-0 record against Mississippi Valley State, a 2-0 record against Florida A&M, a 2-0 record on the court against Southern (the NCAA ruled that Kentucky’s victory over the Jaguars in the 1988 NCAA Tournament round of 64 was nullified because UK used a player who was later found to be ineligible), and a 1-0 record against Alcorn Stake, Jackson State, and Texas Southern.

SWAC schools have never been played by the Wildcats. Bethune-Cookman, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Alabama State, and Alabama A&M. Prairie View and Grambling State.

5. Check-in for all-time wins.

The UK is tied with Kansas for the most wins in men’s college basketball history after five games under Mark Pope’s coaching.

Following Kentucky’s triumph over Jackson State, the Jayhawks and Wildcats are now at 5-0. Consequently, UK keeps its five-win lead over KU going into the 2024–25 campaign.

On Tuesday night, both teams will play again. At Rupp Arena, the No. 9 Wildcats will host Western Kentucky, an intrastate opponent. On a neutral floor in Las Vegas, the top-seeded Jayhawks will take on the 12th-ranked Duke.
