Following a crazy feast week in which several top-10 teams suffered losses, Kentucky basketball shot to number four in the AP Poll, which was revealed today. Houston and UCONN were among those who suffered several losses. Kentucky will now face their most difficult two-game stretch of the early season after their perfect season catapulted them into the top 5.
They take on Clemson, who is now garnering votes despite not being in the rankings. They are currently 7-1 and will want to defeat Kentucky in order to improve their own record. The Tigers will have a little edge because they will be able to play at home. It will be the first time Kentucky has played on the road.
Next up for the Wildcats is a hybrid-neural game against the #7 Gonzaga Bulldogs in Seattle. Since Seattle is far closer to Spokane than Lexington, the majority of the fans will be Bulldogs, even though Gonzaga is not from there. A large number of Gonzaga graduates reside and work in the Seattle region.
The Wildcats have slowly risen in the AP Poll, but that’s not the only place they are in the top 5. They rank among the best in the nation in multiple statistical categories.

The Wildcats are demonstrating their superiority as a team and will face a formidable remaining schedule. In the remaining games, their schedule is the strongest. Kentucky has a more difficult schedule than any other club in the future. There are just three games left in Quad 3-4 for the Wildcats. This indicates that nearly every game on the remaining calendar is a Quad 1 or 2 match. Hold on tight. Now is when the season gets tough.
How big of a jump will Kentucky have in the AP Poll after chaotic week of college basketball?
Last Monday, November 25, the AP Poll ranked the Kentucky Wildcats as the eighth best team. The top 10 has seen some thrilling matches this week, and some teams at the top of the standings have suffered their first defeats as a result of some elite invitational tournaments. Let’s take a look at those defeats and the ensuing upheaval in the rankings.

There has been anarchy in those rankings ever since these were placed in the top 10. It will be interesting to watch what the AP Poll voters do because so many teams dropped around Kentucky. Below is a summary of what transpired:

It wouldn’t be shocking to see UCONN drop from second in the AP Poll to unranked. In my opinion, Alabama will fall into the teens, Houston will fall toward the bottom of the poll, Iowa State will just drop a few positions because they only lost to another top 5 team, and Gonzaga will fall outside of the top 10. Since Oregon, an unbeaten team, is Alabama’s sole opponent, they will likely rise in the rankings.
Where does Kentucky stand now that a crazy hoops feast week has come to an end? What do they appear to be jumping to? It appears that either Auburn and Kansas or Auburn and Kansas will be the top two teams. Since the Tigers have defeated more formidable opponents than any other team in the nation and continue to win, it is easy to make the case for them. Kansas will either remain at number one or drop to number two.
Gonzaga will drop a couple spots to take the third spot, which is now up for grabs. As much as you would like to see it happen, there isn’t really a case for Kentucky to overtake Tennessee. Auburn, Kansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Marquette, and Iowa State are the schools you would have to guess depart.
After a difficult week, they will undoubtedly break into the top five. If I had to estimate, they would start at #4 before starting their own difficult run against Gonzaga in Seattle and Clemson on the road.
