Coaching interview: there he is! Gayle Benson finally making the big move on potential coaching candidate for the Saints” after so many replacement tragedy…
The New Orleans Saints can now approach Mike Vrabel about their head coaching position.
Reports indicate that Vrabel’s contract with the Cleveland Browns ended on Monday, making him immediately available for coaching opportunities.
Following his dismissal from the Tennessee Titans after the 2023 season, Vrabel served as a consultant for Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Later in the year, he took on a hands-on role with the team’s offensive line, effectively functioning as their position coach, according to ESPN.
Mickey Loomis, the general manager of the Saints, stated early this year that it was not anticipated that the organization would begin its coaching search until the end of the season.
Following a seven-game losing skid, the team sacked coach Dennis Allen in November and hired Darren Rizzi as a temporary replacement. Since then, Rizzi has gone 3–4, but the Saints have suffered three consecutive losses.
Vrabel was mentioned by ESPN’s Adam Schefter as a potential addition to the Saints prior to New Orleans’ Dec. 23 34-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions and a former coach and player in New Orleans, was also suggested by the insider as a potential candidate. However, the Saints will probably need to outbid other teams for Vrabel’s services if they want him.
Despite the fact that the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders have not yet hired a new coach, Vrabel is allegedly expected to be in high demand this offseason. Vrabel, a former Patriots linebacker, rose up the coaching levels and led Tennessee for six seasons.
With the Titans, Vrabel finished 54-45 and qualified for the playoffs three times. In 2021, the Titans won the AFC Championship, but they had trouble continuing to be successful after that. After two consecutive seasons below.500, Vrabel was let go.
