Goal nightmare: vinicius junior! McKenna Ipswich Make Daring Move for “Superstar in the Making” – Hutchinson 2.0 on the Horizon” plays more like vinicius junior according to his current coach confession. See full details…
With the early February deadline quickly approaching, Ipswich Town will be rushing to finalize some last-minute signings before the transfer window closes.
The relegation-threatened Tractor Boys have already strengthened their squad, securing loan deals for Julio Enciso and Ben Godfrey, while also making a significant permanent signing by bringing in Jaden Philogene-Bidace from Aston Villa for £20 million.
McKenna will be hoping this spending spree continues right until the deadline as Ipswich Town are now being linked with this promising young player.
Ipswich make transfer inquiry
According to journalist Simon Phillips, Ipswich have approached Chelsea about the possibility of signing Carney Chukwuemeka on loan before the window closes. The talks started after Chelsea showed interest in Ipswich’s Liam Delap. Phillips also mentioned that Chukwuemeka is not keen on moving to Portman Road before the deadline, with other clubs like Juventus, Porto, and Everton also pursuing the 21-year-old.
Ipswich will be hopeful that progress can be made on this deal, despite Chukwuemeka’s reluctance to move to Suffolk, considering the club’s past success with Chelsea youth players. After all, Omari Hutchinson was largely overlooked while at Stamford Bridge but was given the opportunity to showcase his talents under McKenna at Ipswich.
Why Chukwuemeka could be Hutchinson 2.0
Indeed, Hutchinson was key to Ipswich unbelievably rising up to the Premier League at the end of last season, with the 21-year-old picking up plenty of goals and assists in the Championship.
After just receiving two senior appearances back in West London, Hutchinson had amassed a staggering 10 goals and six assists for his new team in league action by the end of the 2023–24 season.
He has also adjusted to the Premier League quite well; in November, he helped his club secure a share of the points against Manchester United with this incredible performance. Given that he has made zero appearances in the top division this season, Chukwuemeka, who played alongside Hutchinson for Chelsea at the junior level, would feel more valued at Ipswich if a trade materializes.
After all, football talent evaluator Jacek Kulig would even call Chukwuemeka a “superstar in the making” while he was dominating the young setup at England, scoring six goals in 13 U19 caps. His progress may now be impeded at Chelsea.
Chukwuemeka is a versatile midfielder who can play in a traditional central role or operate further forward as a number ten. McKenna is eager to secure his signature during this hectic transfer window, as the 21-year-old would provide competition for Enciso and Conor Chaplin in attacking midfield while also bringing a different dynamic compared to the more defensive-minded Sam Morsy and Jens Cajuste.
However, convincing the highly sought-after youngster to join Ipswich may be challenging. That said, a move could help Chukwuemeka regain confidence after a difficult season with Chelsea, much like Hutchinson benefited from his own transfer.

With 48 senior appearances already under his belt at Chelsea and former employers Aston Villa, along with a promising goal and assist total of three next to his name, he might blow up at Portman Road if given more regular playing time.
