Worst tragedy: the worst I have seen! Ex-Ravens Player Slams Joe Burrow as Overrated, Makes Bizarre Bo Nix Comparison!. See full details…
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has rapidly become one of the most disrespected and disliked players in the NFL. The criticism he’s received, particularly this season, doesn’t make sense given his performance. Burrow had an outstanding season, leading the league with 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, and is a finalist for MVP.
While the Bengals missed the playoffs for several reasons, it’s clear that Burrow isn’t to blame, especially with a historically bad defense. Former Ravens defensive lineman Chris Canty recently made an ill-informed comment about Burrow, claiming he’s not elite. Canty argued that Burrow’s success is due to the talent around him and suggested that Burrow is simply a good quarterback, not a great one.
Canty questioned, “If he’s so great, why is his team not in the playoffs while the Denver Broncos with Bo Nix are?” However, there are many factors contributing to the Bengals missing the postseason, and Burrow isn’t among them.
It’s important to note, especially for critics like Canty, that while Burrow has elite receivers, he’s consistently played behind one of the NFL’s worst offensive lines, unlike Bo Nix, who had the benefit of the best offensive line in 2024. The Bengals’ offensive line ranked 29th, while Denver’s top-ranked defense also contributed to their success—something crucial when evaluating a team sport.
Even ESPN’s Mina Kimes has expressed frustration with Canty’s criticism of Burrow.
