NRL meeting LIVE: Ezra Mam nightmare NRL woe’s compounded after the recent case deliberation” as he faces sad judgement” aim recent suspension saga. Here’s the new phase of the case…
Broncos five-eighth in Brisbane Following the league’s decision that Ezra Mam cannot use the All-Stars game toward his nine-match sentence for a drug driving offense, the player’s return to the NRL has been postponed.
Ezra Mam’s suspension has been extended to ten games, meaning he won’t be eligible to return until at least Round 10 of the 2025 season, according to The Courier-Mail.
This differs from past cases involving Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr, who were allowed to count the All Stars game toward their suspensions. Mitchell’s one-game ban for an off-field incident was reduced, allowing him to play in South Sydney’s season opener. Similarly, Addo-Carr’s four-game suspension for a positive cocaine test was shortened when the All Stars game was included in his penalty.
Mam tested positive for cocaine following a car crash in Brisbane in October 2023. He was fined $850 in court, along with additional fines totaling $120,000 from the NRL and the Broncos. Despite being eligible for the Indigenous All Stars team, he has never played in the event. The decision to exclude the fixture from his suspension stands in contrast to Broncos fullback Reece Walsh, who had the All Stars game counted toward his ban in 2022.
Mam has continued training with the Broncos but is prohibited from playing in the NRL or Hostplus Cup during his suspension. Broncos coach Michael Maguire commended Mam’s progress, highlighting his efforts to take responsibility and grow from the experience.
“I’ve spoken to him quite a bit,” Maguire said. “He’s gone through rehab, learned a lot about himself, and taken responsibility by working and experiencing life outside of football. He is growing.”
Maguire emphasized the importance of resilience, acknowledging that adversity tests a person’s character. “Everyone faces challenges in life. It’s now up to Ezra to respond to this and shape his future.”
The Broncos coach remains confident in Mam’s ability to overcome this setback.
