Departure tragedy: so sad! Tomlin Steelers set for serious flops exodus” exactly after Thanksgiving crunch clear out. technically worst” Jefferson leads the sad group of disappointed players” to the way out” here’s the already confirmed sad names…

The 2024 regular season is nearing its home stretch for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though Mike Tomlin’s team has lost a number of games this season that they could have won against less than stellar opponents, the Steelers are still in the running for a postseason berth.

Pittsburgh must look at every option to improve its squad in order to contend in the postseason now that the trade deadline has gone. Technically, a number of players are on the team, but they have only been supporting it.

It’s unlikely that Pittsburgh will find free-agent gems this late in the season, but the team currently has four guys that contribute virtually nothing. Among them is Van Jefferson. After Thanksgiving, these four players must leave.

Van Jefferson, WR

Jefferson caught two passes for 39 yards against the Browns on Thursday Night Football in the Blizzard Bowl. This is more than you would anticipate from him at any other time throughout the season, which is ironic. Why use an unimpressive wide receiver who lacks a specialization in his game when the Steelers acquired Mike Williams shortly before the deadline?

It’s interesting that Van is still listed as a starting wide receiver on the Steelers’ most recent depth chart, but I wouldn’t accept this at face value. Although Jefferson is only a WR2 by default, Pittsburgh benefits from having almost every other wide receiver (or tight end, for that matter) on the field.

Dean Lowry, DL

Dean Lowry’s arrival this offseason thrilled Steelers supporters. However, Lowry’s presence on the football field in 2024 has essentially gone unnoticed, with the exception of raising his hands during a field goal try.

The aged defensive lineman seldom ever plays on the field and plays defense part-time. He is also expected to rank among the NFL’s worst inside defenders this season, according to Pro Football Focus. They could add to Lowry’s role and more with literally any free agency option they could get at this time.

Scotty Miller, wide receiver

It’s puzzling that Scotty Miller is still on the Steelers roster this late in the season. Miller has been a slot receiver and sporadic deep threat for the Bucs and Falcons over the years, but he hasn’t contributed much this season.

Miller has played in nine games by Thanksgiving, but on 130 offensive snaps, he has only grabbed two of four receptions for 31 yards. Even worse, the seasoned wide receiver contributes nothing to special teams. This season, he has only played nine special teams snaps.

Calvin Anderson, OT

When Calvin Anderson was compelled to enter the lineup, we witnessed the ensuing mayhem. Anderson took Dan Moore Jr.’s place after he was hurt and gave up a sack right away. Although losing Troy Fautanu, a first-round choice, for the season was devastating, there must be better swing tackle possibilities available.

Anderson has been a nightmare on just 11 offensive snaps. This season, the large offensive lineman only gets one special teams snap. He adds little to the Steelers squad other than being a depth player at the bottom of the depth chart. In the event that Broderick Jones or Moore sustain an injury late in the season, Pittsburgh will have to search for an upgrade in free agency.
