There have been ups and downs thus far in the Kentucky football season of 2024, with more downs than ups recently. The Wildcats lost to Vanderbilt last week in a disjointed effort, and now they are down to the Florida Gators 48–20 in their second consecutive.

The offensive line for Kentucky stumbled again, as it has done all year. Although Brock Vandagriff, the quarterback, found Barion Brown for a big touchdown in the first half, he was poor overall, going just 12-of-26 for 165 yards. In addition, he recorded two interceptions.

Conversely, 48 points and 476 yards of total offense were produced against a Wildcats defense that had played superbly throughout the season. Starting at quarterback, D.J. Lagway, a rookie from Florida, completed just seven passes for 259 yards.

Kentucky’s prospects of playing in a ninth consecutive bowl game are significantly reduced with their current 3–4 record. They now need to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers, Louisville, or the Texas Longhorns in order to reach six victories.

The struggling Auburn Tigers, who are also experiencing a challenging season, are up next. This game must be won by Kentucky now, otherwise the season is virtually over.

The loss against Florida snapped the Gators’ three-game winning streak.
