So shock: Oklahoma HC’ Brent Venables heaps high” praise for two Alabama linebackers” as he calls out for key defensive plans. See details..
In order to talk about this weekend’s Alabama-Oklahoma game, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables joined the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday morning. Regarding two Alabama linebackers and their performance this season, he had some good things to say.
“They’re playing at an exceptional level on defense at all three levels. Their linebackers, Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell, are now playing at the highest level of any linebacker in the nation.
Over the years, Venables has coached a number of strong defenses. From 2012 to 2021, he served as Clemson’s defensive coordinator. Christian Wilkins, AJ Terrell, and Dexter Lawrence were among the first-round selections he helped generate. Both have gone on to enjoy prosperous NFL careers thus far.
In terms of Campbell and Lawson, both have gotten better during the season. Their play has improved over the last three weeks. In the past three games, Campbell has recorded 29 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. Several draft analysts now predict that he will be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, in the last three games, Lawson has racked up 13 tackles and one interception.
The linebacker tandem is arguably among the greatest in the nation overall. They are a top pair because of their ability to rush the passer, defend the run, and drop back in coverage. On Saturday night, Venables and the Sooners will undoubtedly have their hands full containing the two of them in Norman.
