AUSTIN For the second time this season, Anthony Hill Jr. was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

The honor was originally given to the sophomore linebacker on October 14 after Texas thrashed Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.

His performance in the Longhorns’ most recent home game versus Kentucky has now given him confidence again. Bryce Thorton, a defensive back for Florida, and Hill split the championship.

Hill recorded two sacks, four tackles for loss, 11 total tackles, and a forced fumble in the game against Kentucky, setting career single-game highs.

Three plays later, the Wildcats were forced to a punt on second and 17 after one of his sacks on Kentucky’s second offensive play.

A tackle for loss and the forced fumble occurred in the second quarter, forcing a 4th-and-2 from the Texas 4-yard line. “Anthony is a really versatile player,” head coach Steve Sarkisian said to reporters during the battle with Kentucky.

“He was named the ‘Freak of the Week’ by Tim Tebow when I was on the SEC Nation show this morning. Although he is still young, he is incredibly versatile, strong, and has a great football IQ. He can also run. He can play linebacker, run, and off the ball, and he is aggressive when he gets on the football field.

The Texas defense, led by Hill, is ranked third in scoring defense but second nationally in the FBS in overall defense (247.5 ypg), passing yards allowed (143.5 ypg), passing efficiency defense (93.51), intercepted passes (17), and first down defense (162). Next Saturday, Hill will face Texas A&M at Kyle Field, which is a hostile environment.
